…Ntungamo Primary School?

On March 21, 2021, we celebrated a premiere: our first charity couch concert BEATS FOR BUKOBA went live on YouTube.

Twenty artists from all over the world recorded their songs in advance, making a unique three-hour concert possible.

The audience donated diligently and, in the end, we exceeded our donation goal and reached the proud sum of EUR 29,502!

The BEATS FOR BUKOBA project

The project we wanted to support with these donations was quickly decided.

The Ntungamo Primary School in Biharamulo District Council, Kagera had won both the District Bonanza and the Regional Bonanza in January this year.

The school, the parents and the students, as well as the community unanimously decided to use the prize money for the construction of two classrooms and a new staff room for the 13 teachers on site.

Until now, the situation for the 1,264 students had been extremely tense: there were only eight classrooms for the 568 girls and 696 boys. On average, 158 children were crowded into one room.

With the two new classrooms, the ratio would be reduced to 126 students per classroom.

That’s still an unimaginable number for us in Germany, but it already eases the current situation at the school considerably and creates a more pleasant environment for learning.

community had already started building the two classrooms plus a staff room in between.

This is because, as with all of our projects, we require that the government, as well as the local community that will benefit from the construction, also contribute to the project.

In this case, 60 percent of the construction costs were to come from donations from BEATS FOR BUKOBA, 30 percent were provided by the Biharamulo District Council, and the school community contributed another 10 percent – primarily in the form of local building materials and labour.

This makes a remarkable contribution of EUR 6,700 – and that amount in a region where every second person suffers from extreme poverty.

The construction of a school project

By the end of May, the foundation and walls are in place. The roof is covered.

The only thing missing is the interior…

The project is already 90 percent complete.
