The way we see it, these challenges must be seen as interlinked because they determine the prospects of an entire generation of young people and affect society as a whole. Around 45% of Tanzania’s population is under the age of 15.

  • Around 945,000 square kilometres and the largest country in East Africa
  • Population of approx. 50.76 million (in 2014)
  • Peaceful democratic multi-party system
  • Ranked 159 of 187 in the Human Development Index Ranking (in 2014)
  • Average monthly income is USD 45
  • Independent judiciary
  • Religious freedom is guaranteed in the constitution
  • Traditional peaceful coexistence of individual ethnic and religious groups (particularly Muslims and Christians)
  • Partner country of German development cooperation for many years
